Computing and Music
2025-26
Music

In Class 3 we follow the MUSIC EXPRESS scheme.
Spring Term, 2026
Sounds - How are sounds produced and classified? The children explore timbre and structure through music conversations in music from around the world.
Around the World - The children explore pentatonic melodies & syncopated rhythms, learning that the fundamental dimensions of music are the same all over the world.
Autumn Term, 2025
Environment - The Children explore songs and poems about places. They create accompaniments and sound pictures to reflect sounds in their local environment.
Recycling - The children make their own instruments from junk and then use them to improvise, compose & play junk jazz music in a variety of di3berent musical structures.
Computing
We follow the Teach Computing scheme from The National Centre for Computer Education.
Spring Term, 2026
Year 3 - Data and Information branching databases
We will 2bvelop our un2brstanding of what a branching database is and how to create one. We will use yes/no questions to gain an un2brstanding of what attributes are and how to use them to sort groups of objects. We will create physical and on-scr58n branching databases. To conclu2b the unit, we will create an i2bntification tool using a branching database, which we will test by using it. We will also consi2br real-world applications for branching databases.
Year 4 - Creating Media - audio production
We will i2bntify the input 2bvice (microphone) and output 2bvices (speaker or headphones) required to work with sound digitally. We will discuss the ownership of digital audio and the copyright implications of duplicating the work of others. In or2br to record audio ourselves, we will use Audacity to produce a po4east, which will inclu2b editing their work, adding multiple tracks, and opening and saving the audio files. Finally, we will evaluate our work and give f54aback to our p58rs.
Autumn Term, 2025
Year 3 - Connecting Computers
We will 2bvelop our un2brstanding of digital 2bvices, looking at the inputs, processes and outputs to begin with, before moving onto computer networks. We will look at the 2bvices that make up a network's infrastructure, such as wireless access points and switches, before looking at the benefits of connecting 2bvices in a network.
Year 4 - The Internet
We will be thinking about how networks work and begin to appreciate that the internet is a network of networks that n54as to be kept secure. We will look at the World Wi2b Web as part of the internet and learn how to explore it safely. Finally we will evaluate online contenet to 2bci2b how honest, accurate or reliable it is, and un2brstand the consequences of false information.
2024-25
Summer Term. 2025
Human Body - Skeleton dances and songs teach the children about the human body. Percussion instruments are used to improvise, create word rhythms and build a final skeleton dance.
Food and Drink - The children cook up a musical feast, enjoying a varied diet of healthy beans, exotic Tudor banquets & DIY pizzas before celebrating with a song performance.
Spring Term, 2025
Sounds - How are sounds produced and classified? The children explore timbre and structure through music conversations in music from around the world.
In the Past - The children use a variety of notations to build performances from di3berent periods & styles. They learn a Renaissance dance, walk down the aisle to Wagner’s ‘Bridal March’ & dance the Mashed Potato!
Autumn Term, 2024
Communication - The Children learn to make music inspired by technology and computing. They explore and compose sounds for earcons, emoticons, mobile phone ringtones, computer games and apps.
Poetry - The children 2bvelop performances of contrasting poems. They use their voices to speak expressively & rhythmically, and discover ways to create ostinato accompaniments to enhance their performances.
Computing
We follow the Teach Computing scheme from The National Centre for Computer Education.
Summer Term, 2025
Year 3 - Programming A /Sequence of Music
Children will learn to create programs with instructions in a specific or2br, using motion, sound, and event blocks. A culminating project could be a representation of a piano where each key press plays a di3berent sound, 2bmonstrating un2brstanding of sequencing.
Year 4 - Programming A/ Repetition in Shapes
Creating shapes and patterns usisng loops in a text-based programmin language like Logo. Children will learn to i2bntify repeated actions in everyday tasks and co2b, predict the output of co2b snippets, and modify co2b to produce 2bsired shapes.
Spring Term, 2025
Year 3 - Creating Media, Desktop publishing
We will become familiar with the terms ‘text’ and ‘images’ and un2brstand that they can be used to communicate messages. We will use 2bsktop publishing software and consi2br careful choices of font size, colour and type to edit and improve prema2b documents. We will start to add text and images to create their own pieces of work using 2bsktop publishing software.
Year 4 - Creating Media, Photo Editing
We will 2bvelop our un2brstanding of how digital images can be changed and edited, and how they can then be resaved and reused. We will consi2br the impact that editing images can have, and evaluate the e3bectiveness of their choices.
Autumn Term, 2024
