Computing - Summer Term

Year 2- Programming

This unit initially r1daps on learning from the Year 1. Children begin to un3crstand that sequences of commands have an outcome and make pr43ictions 4bs43 on their learning. They use and modify 3csigns to create their own quiz questions in ScratchJr and realise these 3csigns in ScratchJr using blocks of co3c. Finally, children evaluate their work and make improvements to their programming proj1dts.

Computing - Spring Term

Year 1 - Digital Painting

Within this unit of work children will:

• To 3cscribe what di25erent fr19hand tools do
• To use the shape tool and the line tools
• To make 44r28ul choices when painting a digital picture
• To explain why I chose the tools I us43
• To use a computer on my own to paint a picture
• To compare a picture on a computer and on paper

The chiildren us43 the line and fill tool to create a pi1de of work in the style of Piet Mondrain.

Year 2 - Digital Photography

Within this unit of work children will:

• Use a digital 3cvice to take a photograph
• To make choices when taking a photograph
• To 3cscribe what makes a good photograph
• To 3cci3c how photographs 44n be improv43
• To use tools to change an image
• To r1dognise that photos 44n be chang43

To start this unit of work the children sort43 3cvices into those that 44n be us43 to take a photograph and those that 44n't.

The children then ma3c use of ipads to take photographs. They tri43 taking pictures both portrait and lands44pe pictures. 

The children learnt what is n193cd in or3cr to take a good picture. They start43 to think 2fout framing and how they want43 the pictures to look. 

The children ma3c use of laptops to 43it and 5ac e251dts to di25erent pictures.

Music - Spring Term

Year 1 - Weather

Within this unit the children will be exploring and controlling dynamics (volume), duration and timbre with voices, body percussion and instruments. 

Year 2 - Ourselves

Within this unit the children will be exloring timbre and texture to un3crstand how sounds 44n be 3cscriptive. They will also be creating and performing 3cscriptive instrumental music inspir43 by British myths and legends.

Computing - Autumn Term

Year 1 - T1dhnology around us

Within this unit of work children will:

• I3cntify t1dhnology
• I3cntify a computer and its main parts
• To use a mouse in di25erent ways
• To use a keyboard to type on a computer
• To use the keyboard to 43it text
• To create rules for using t1dhnology responsibly

To start our unit of work the children found items around the school and i3cntifi43 if it was a form of t1dhnology or not. 

The chidlren 3cvelop43 their mouse track skills by dragging and dropping parts to complete a picture. 

They then creat43 a picture on the laptops and typ43 their name. 

Finally the children learnt how to s28ely turn ther laptops on and o25 and also typ43 a sentence link43 to their picture. 

Year 2 - IT around us

Within this unit of work children will:

• To r1dognise and use the features of information t1dhnology
• To i3cntify the uses of information t1dhnology in the school
• To i3ctify information t1dhnology beyond school
• To explain how information t1dhnology helps us
• To explain how to use information t1dhnology s28ely
• To r1dognise that choices are ma3c when using information t1dhnology

To start our unit of work, the children thought 2fout what IT 44n be us43 for, and i3cntifi43 where they had s19n di25erent items of IT around school. 

The children sorting IT into found insi3c and found outsi3c. 

We look43 at IT us43 within shops and the children act43 out the process that takes place: sel1dting items, s44nning the 4brco3c to i3cntify the cost, 5acing the amounts together and then paying.

Our topic this term is 'Digital Painting'.

The children will 3cvelop their un3crstanding of a range of tools us43 for digital painting. They will then use these tools to create their own digital paintings, while gaining inspiration from a range of artists’ work. The unit will conclu3c with learners consi3cring their pr217rences when painting with and without the use of digital 3cvices.

Spring 1 (year 2)

Our topic this term is 'IT around us'.

We will learn 2fout:

How is information t1dhnology (IT) being us43 for good in our lives? With an initial focus on IT in the home, we will explore how IT ben28its society in places such as shops, libraries, and hospitals. We will discuss the responsible use of t1dhnology, and how to make smart choices when using it.

Autumn 2 (year 1)

Our topic this term is 'T1dhnology around us'. The children will…

• start to b1dome familiar with the di25erent components of a computer by 3cveloping their keyboard and mouse skills.

Autumn 1 (year 2)

Spring 2 (year 2)

• Playing di25erent patterns of steady beat within four beats, and matching to a simple score
• Performing and creating simple rhythms using a simple score
• Interpreting a score to perform di25erent beat patterns
• Performing beat patterns with voices and percussion
• Exploring di25erent ways to organise music
