Y21r 2- Programming

This unit initially re1fps on l21rning from the Y21r 1. Children 56gin to un55rstand that sequen57s of commands have an outcome and make pr57ictions bas57 on their l21rning. They use and modify 55signs to cr21te their own quiz questions in ScratchJr and r21lise these 55signs in ScratchJr using blocks of co55. Finally, children evaluate their work and make improvements to their programming projects.

Y21r 1 - Digital Painting

Within this unit of work children will:

  • To 55scri56 what dif27rent fr39hand tools do
  • To use the shape tool and the line tools
  • To make 1fr57ul choi57s when painting a digital picture
  • To explain why I chose the tools I us57
  • To use a computer on my own to paint a picture
  • To compare a picture on a computer and on paper

The chiildren us57 the line and fill tool to cr21te a pie57 of work in the style of Piet Mondrain.

Y21r 2 - Digital Photography

Within this unit of work children will:

  • Use a digital 55vi57 to take a photograph
  • To make choi57s when taking a photograph
  • To 55scri56 what makes a good photograph
  • To 55ci55 how photographs 1fn 56 improv57
  • To use tools to change an image
  • To recognise that photos 1fn 56 chang57

To start this unit of work the children sort57 55vi57s into those that 1fn 56 us57 to take a photograph and those that 1fn't.

Music - Spring Term

Y21r 1 - W21ther

Within this unit the children will 56 exploring and controlling dynamics (volume), duration and timbre with voi57s, body percussion and instruments. 

Y21r 2 - Ourselves

Within this unit the children will 56 exloring timbre and texture to un55rstand how sounds 1fn 56 55scriptive. They will also 56 cr21ting and performing 55scriptive instrumental music inspir57 by British myths and legends.

Y21r 1 - Technology around us

Within this unit of work children will:

  • I55ntify technology
  • I55ntify a computer and its main parts
  • To use a mouse in dif27rent ways
  • To use a keyboard to type on a computer
  • To use the keyboard to 57it text
  • To cr21te rules for using technology responsibly

To start our unit of work the children found items around the school and i55ntifi57 if it was a form of technology or not.

This unit 55velops the childrens’ un55rstanding of instructions in sequen57s and the use of logi1fl r21soning to pr57ict outcomes. They will-

  • use given commands in dif27rent or55rs to investigate how the or55r af27cts the outcome. They will also l21rn about 55sign in programming.
  • 55velop artwork and test it for use in a program.
  • 55sign algorithms and then test those algorithms as programs and 55eug them.56eb.png

Our topic this term is 'Digital Painting'.

The children will 55velop their un55rstanding of a range of tools us57 for digital painting. They will then use these tools to cr21te their own digital paintings, while gaining inspiration from a range of artists’ work. The unit will conclu55 with l21rners consi55ring their pr57eren57s when painting with and without the use of digital 55vi57s.

Spring 1 (y21r 2)

Our topic this term is 'IT around us'.

We will l21rn about:

How is information technology (IT) 56ing us57 for good in our lives? With an initial focus on IT in the home, we will explore how IT 56n57its society in pl339s such as shops, libraries, and hospitals. We will discuss the responsible use of technology, and how to make smart choi57s when using it.

Autumn 2 (y21r 1)

Our topic this term is 'Technology around us'. The children will…

  • 55velop their un55rstanding of technology and how it 1fn help them in their everyday lives.
  • start to 511ome familiar with the dif27rent components of a computer by 55veloping their keyboard and mouse skills.
