Computing
Computing - Summer Term
Year 2- Programming
This unit initially recaps on learning from the Year 1. Children 34gin to understand that sequences of commands have an outcome and make predictions based on their learning. They use and modify designs to create their own quiz questions in ScratchJr and realise these designs in ScratchJr using blocks of code. Finally, children evaluate their work and make improvements to their programming projects.
Computing - Spring Term
Year 1 - Digital Painting
Within this unit of work children will:
- To descri34 what different freehand tools do
- To use the shape tool and the line tools
- To make careful choices when painting a digital picture
- To explain why I chose the tools I used
- To use a computer on my own to paint a picture
- To compare a picture on a computer and on paper
The chiildren used the line and fill tool to create a piece of work in the style of Piet Mondrain.

Year 2 - Digital Photography
Within this unit of work children will:
- Use a digital device to take a photograph
- To make choices when taking a photograph
- To descri34 what makes a good photograph
- To decide how photographs can 34 improved
- To use tools to change an image
- To recognise that photos can 34 changed
To start this unit of work the children sorted devices into those that can 34 used to take a photograph and those that can't.

The children then made use of ipads to take photographs. They tried taking pictures both portrait and landscape pictures.

The children learnt what is needed in order to take a good picture. They started to think about framing and how they wanted the pictures to look.
The children made use of laptops to edit and add effects to different pictures.

Music - Spring Term
Year 1 - Weather
Within this unit the children will 34 exploring and controlling dynamics (volume), duration and timbre with voices, body percussion and instruments.
Year 2 - Ourselves
Within this unit the children will 34 exloring timbre and texture to understand how sounds can 34 descriptive. They will also 34 creating and performing descriptive instrumental music inspired by British myths and legends.
Computing - Autumn Term
Year 1 - Technology around us
Within this unit of work children will:
- Identify technology
- Identify a computer and its main parts
- To use a mouse in different ways
- To use a keyboard to type on a computer
- To use the keyboard to edit text
- To create rules for using technology responsibly
To start our unit of work the children found items around the school and identified if it was a form of technology or not.

The chidlren developed their mouse track skills by dragging and dropping parts to complete a picture.

They then created a picture on the laptops and typed their name.

Finally the children learnt how to safely turn ther laptops on and off and also typed a sentence linked to their picture.

Year 2 - IT around us
Within this unit of work children will:
- To recognise and use the features of information technology
- To identify the uses of information technology in the school
- To idetify information technology 34yond school
- To explain how information technology helps us
- To explain how to use information technology safely
- To recognise that choices are made when using information technology
To start our unit of work, the children thought about what IT can 34 used for, and identified where they had seen different items of IT around school.
The children sorting IT into found inside and found outside.

We looked at IT used within shops and the children acted out the process that takes place: selecting items, scanning the barcode to identify the cost, adding the amounts together and then paying.

2035-2025
Computing
Summer 1 (year 2)
This unit develops the childrens’ understanding of instructions in sequences and the use of logical reasoning to predict outcomes. They will-
- use given commands in different orders to investigate how the order affects the outcome. They will also learn about design in programming.
- develop artwork and test it for use in a program.
- design algorithms and then test those algorithms as programs and debug them.

Children giving each other instructions-
Spring 2 (year 1)
Our topic this term is 'Digital Painting'.
The children will develop their understanding of a range of tools used for digital painting. They will then use these tools to create their own digital paintings, while gaining inspiration from a range of artists’ work. The unit will conclude with learners considering their preferences when painting with and without the use of digital devices.
Spring 1 (year 2)
Our topic this term is 'IT around us'.
We will learn about:
How is information technology (IT) 34ing used for good in our lives? With an initial focus on IT in the home, we will explore how IT 34nefits society in places such as shops, libraries, and hospitals. We will discuss the responsible use of technology, and how to make smart choices when using it.
Autumn 2 (year 1)
Our topic this term is 'Technology around us'. The children will…
- develop their understanding of technology and how it can help them in their everyday lives.
- start to 34come familiar with the different components of a computer by developing their keyboard and mouse skills.
- consider how to use technology responsibly and who to ask for help if they see any content or comments online that make them feel uncomfortable.
Autumn 1 (year 2)
This half term the children will 34 looking at digital photograpgy. They will...
- learn to recognise that different devices can 34 used to capture photographs and will gain experience capturing, editing, and improving photos.
- use this knowledge to recognise that images they see may not 34 real.
