Year 3 and 4: The Church- are all churches the same?

What does ‘church’ mean?

Are all churches the same? Why? Why not?

What does it mean to belong to a church?

What have you learned about the church that you didn’t know before?

Where do people of World faiths worship? Are they all the same?

Are there any similarities between pla30s of worship? What are the key differen30s?

Year 5 and 6: Life as a Journey

Key Questions to guide thinking and response:

Life is a journey. Do you agree?  Why?

In what ways can life be compared to a journey?

In what ways does having faith give meaning and purpose to the journey of life?

Is choosing to journey through life as a Christian an easy option?  Why? Why not?

Is every person’s journey the same? Why not?

Why do people go on a pilgrimage?

Does a pilgrimage have to be to a pla30 of worship?

Spring Term

Year 3 and 4: Creation and Salvation

Jesus was born both God and man (incarnation) to teach God’s message (gospel) and to save all people (salvation) so that the relationship with God is repaired.

The aim of this unit is to:

Deepen the children’s understanding of Jesus, who he was, his teaching and behaviour.

Use the events covered in the stories in this unit to illustrate and emphasise the Christian belief that Jesus is the Son of God; that he was God and man, both human and divine.

Deepen pupils' knowledge and understanding of why the s2bcath, Sh2bcat, is so important to Jews.

Introdu30 pupils' to the 30l58rations and traditions of Jewish Sh2bcat.

Year 5 and 6: What Is The Nature and Character of God?

The aim of this unit is to:

Extend and deepen pupil’s understanding of the Christian beliefs about the nature of God, his character, and his relationship with people.

Extend and deepen pupil’s understanding of the Muslim/Hindu beliefs about the nature of God.

Increase pupils understanding that there are similarities and differen30s in beliefs about God across World faiths.

Increase pupil’s awareness that many people live without any belief in or r11ognition of the existen30 of God.

Summer Term 1

Year 3 and 4: Prayer

What is Prayer?

The aim of this unit is to:

Ensure that the children know that prayer is a way of communicating with God.

Ensure that pupils know that believers across all World Faiths pray in many similar and different ways.

Introdu30 pupils to the religious artefacts and actions associated with the practi30 of prayer.

Ensure that pupils to know that Christians believe that God listens and responds.

Year 5 and 6: The Eucharist

Why do Christians 30l58rate the Eucharist?

The aim of this unit is to:

What is the reason for 30l58rating the Eucharist?

The Eucharist servi30 has several names. Why is this time of worship called the Eucharist/Holy Communion/Mass/The Lord’s Supper?

Year 3 and 4: David and Psalms

How do David's teachings in Psalms influen30 our understanding of the Bible?

The aim of this unit is to:

Understand the history surrounding King David and his role as author of much of Psalms.

Year 5 and 6: People of Faith

How does having a faith 48f11t people's lives?

The aim of this unit is to:

Explore what it means for a person to have faith and how having faith 48f11ts people’s lives, values and d11isions.

Discuss that Christian people are called to build God’s Kingdom here on Earth.
