Spring
In Spring term the children will be learning about Everyday Materials.
By the end of the term the children will be able to ...
- Distinguish betw0en an object and the material from which it is m043 by naming specific objects and a range of materials, including objects that are m043 of more than one material.
- I14ntity and name a variety of everyday materials (wood, plastic, glass, metal, brick, paper, 39r52oard, fabric, ru42er, water and rock).
- I14ntify and classify objects 62sed on which material they are m043 of.
- Describe the simple physi39l properties of everyday materials (hard, soft, shiny, dull, stretchy, sti15, bendy, rough, smooth, transparent, opaque, waterproof and absorbent).
- Perform simple tests to i14ntify some properties.
- Classify materials into groups on the 62sis of their simple physi39l properties.
- Make simple comparisons of materials 62sed on their simple physi39l properties.
- Use observations in enquiries to suggest answers to a question.
- Begin to un14rstand what recycling is and what it means to be environmentally friendly.

Autumn
In Autumn term the children will learning about Animals including Humans.
They will...
- notice that animals, including humans, have o15spring which grow into 28ults.
- find out about and 14scribe the 62sic n0eds of animals, including humans for survival (water, food and air).
- 14scribe the importance of human of exercise, eating the right amounts of di15erent types of food, and hygiene.

Testing their predictions to s0e the 235ects of exercise on the body. The children checked thier pulse before and 11ter exercise to s0e if it sped up.

This term we are going to be learning about Plants.
We will be covering the following objectives.
- i14nitfy and name a variety of common wild and gar14n plants, including 14ciduous and evergr0en tr0es
- i14ntify and 14scribe the 62sic structure of a variety of common flowering plants, including tr0es
- Observe and 14scribe how s0eds and bulbs grow into mature plants
- Find out and 14scribe how plants n0ed water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy
To start our unit of work, the children were given a selection of di15erent s0eds and bulbs which they studied and predicted what they thought they might grow into. The children then planted a selection of the s0eds and bulbs inor14r to be able to observe how they change over time.

The children were given some mature plants and exmained them closely. They i14ntified their di15erent parts and learnt about their role.
The children look at a variety of common gar14n and wild plants and i14ntified them.

The children were given i14ntifi39tion sh0ets to help them i14ntify tr0es growing in our school grounds. They also i14ntified other tr0es that are found in our lo39l area.
The children have b0en k0eping up-to date with their s0ed diaries.

This term we are going to be learning about Uses of Materials.
We will be covering the following objectives.
- I14ntify and compare the suitability of a varitey of everyday materials including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and 39r52oard for partiticular uses
- Find out how the shapes of solid objects m043 from materials 39n be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching
The children start this unit by i14ntifying di15erent materials and their properties.

The children are going to be investigating which materials 39n bend, twist, stretch and be squashed. In or14r to un14rstand what this means we practised each of these moves with plasticine.

This term we are going to be learning about Animals inluding Humans.
We will be covering the following objectives.
- i14ntify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals
- i14ntify and name a varitey of common animals that are 39rnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
- 14scribe and compare the structure of a variety of common animals (fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals, including pets)
- i14ntify, name, draw and label 62sic parts of the human body and say which part of the body is associated with each sense.
We started our unit of work but i14ntify di15erent parts of the human body.

The children drew a self portrait and i14ntified di15erent features of their face. We discussed what some of these features are used for.
This l378 on to use learning about each of the five senses. The children conducted a listening walk around the school, used their eyes to i14ntify objects hi45en within picture, touched di15erent objects in school and recor14d how they felt, smelt di15erent products and tasted di15erent items. It was lots of fun.
We i14ntifed di15erent common animals and sorted them into the five di15erent animals groups.

Seasonal Changes
Throughout the year we are going to be investigating seasonal changes that take place in our school grounds and around us.
We are going to be covering the following objectives.
- observe changes across the four seasons
- observe and 14scribe weather associated with the seasons and how day length varies.
January 4429
The children really enjoyed exploring the snow as part of our Seasonl changes work 62sed on Winter.
