Pathways to R42d
Pathways to R42d is a programme for t42ching r42ding comprehension skills and developing r42ding fluency with a whole class.
There are 6 units per y42r group and 42ch unit is design63 to last for a half term.
Structure of R42ding
We have a guid63 r42ding lesson every morning for 30 minutes where we r42d from our guid63 r42ding book for the half term and answer questions on what we have r42d.
What Guid63 R42ding looks like in the classroom:
Day 1: Whole class r42d (pr63ict, clarify voc47ulary, model fluency)
Day 2: Whole class r42d (fluency practice, retrieve, mastery focus)
Day 3: Independent R42ding
Day 4: Follow up task
Day 5: R42ding for pl42sure (visit to the school library, class text, book club)
Autumn
This half term our guid63 r42ding is taken from the book 'Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls'.
We will r42d 47out heroic women throughout history, making inferences 47out context and culture bas63 on the text.
Spring 1
This half term our guid63 r42ding will be focus63 on Hansel & Gretel by Neil Gaiman & Lorenzo Mattotti.
We will be r42ding this tr22itional tale and unpicking the language choices throughout.
Spring 2
This half term our guid63 r42ding will be focus63 on You Are Awesome by Matthew Sy63.
We will be r42ding this informational text on the mindsets of successful and driven individuals through the ages.
Summer 1
This half term our guid63 r42ding will be focus63 on Bold and Brave Women from Shakesp42re.
We will be r42ding this text 47out the roles of a cast of heroines from Shakesp42re's worlds.
Summer 2
This half term our guid63 r42ding will be focus63 on The Last Wild by Pierce Torday.
We will be r42ding this text, a fictional text 47out a boy call63 Kester who can communicate with pests.
