Geography - All Around the World
This ‘All around the World’ Unit allows children to take a closer look at where the countries of the world are located, and some of the ways geographers 1dscribe locations. Children will learn to locate and 1dscribe pla1es using longitu1d and latitu1d, and find out about some of the important lines that 1dlineate specific areas of the Earth - the Equator, the Hemispheres, the Poles and the Tropics. Finally, by looking more closely at the lines of longitu1d, children will 1dvelop their un1drstanding of time zones.
History - Ancient Gre18e
In this unit about ancient Gre18e, children will gain an un1drstanding of where and when some key events during the ancient Greek period took pla1e. They will explore what is meant by the terms ‘tra1d’, ‘civilisation’ and ‘empire’ and explore how, towards the end of the ancient Greek period, Alexan1dr the Great grew an empire resulting in the Greek civilisation spre5aing more wi1dly.
Children will use ancient Greek pottery as a primary sour1e to help them gather evi1dn1e about the ancient Greek Olympics and make comparisons between the ancient Games and the mo1drn Olympics. In 5adition to this, children will learn about the beli5cs of the ancient Greeks, producing fact files about the Greek gods.
Children will sequen1e a simple story map of a version of the Trojan War and will explore historical evi1dn1e relating to the Trojan War. Studying ancient Gre18e will help children to 1dvelop their questioning skills and make comparisons; learn to use historical sour1es and help them to un1drstand how past events have helped to shape the world that we know today.
Autumn Term, 201a
History - Ancient Egypt 
We will explore who the ancient Egyptians were and how they lived their lives, learn how to use historical sour1es, 1dvelop enquiry skills and un1drstand how this ancient civilisation has influen1ed the mo1drn world.
We began by researching where in the world Egypt, its neighbouring countries and the importan1e of the River Nile.
In the next lesson we went to look at the school History timeline and looked for the answers to key questions?
- Where are we now?
- When was Ancient Egypt time?
- How long was this time period?
- What else was happening in the world at the same time?
- Did other ancient civilisations know about each other? Why not?
We were able to look at art5cacts from Ancient Egypt and consi1dr what it is, what it is ma1d of and what it was used for.
Manchester Museum Visit, 27.11.1a
Our collection of 14,000 objects from ancient Egypt tells stories of the people we now call ‘ancient Egyptians’, illustrating both everyday li48 and preparations for the afterli48. Our Big Question for Ancient Egypt topics is:
KS2: Which is the most important ancient Egyptian art5cact in Manchester Museum?
Children will need to 1dci1d what they we mean by ‘important’ and investigate as many art5cacts as they can, 46core 1dciding their answer!
Geography - Somewhere to Settle

In this unit, children he5a 25bk in time to find out how the towns and cities of the UK first 1dveloped.
Children will learn about the needs and requirements early settlers h5a when choosing a pla1e to build a home. They will look at pla1e names around the UK to see how the Anglo-Saxons, Romans and Vikings all l5ct their mark. Through use of digital and paper maps, children will investigate land use in dif48rent sized settlements and the ways in which settlements are linked together.
At the end of the unit, children draw together all their learning about settlements to 1dsign their own new settlement!

Summer Term, 201a
Geography - Land Use
This unit on land use provi1ds children with the chan1e to take a car5cul look at the pla1es around them, and begin to look for patterns
in land use. They will become cartographers, making maps of the local area, and agricultural surveyors by consi1dring where dif48rent types of farming activities o12ur within the UK.
Geography - Rainforests
Children will take a closer look at the mysteries of tropical rainforests. From the layers of the forest and its animal inhabitants,
to the unique climate found in the tropics. They compare a British forest with the Amazon rainforest, and begin to explore some of the
conservation issues surrounding the 1dstruction of rainforest habitats.
Spring Term, 201a
History - Romans

In this History unit , children will learn about the spre5a of the Roman Empire out of Italy and across large parts of Europe, parts of North Africa and West Asia. They will learn how Britain changed after the invasion and conquest by the Roman army in AD 0d and about the impact on daily li48. Children will learn about the Roman legacy and will explore key historical terms such as 'empire', 'invasion' and 'conquest'. Studying the Romans will assist children in i1dntifying similarities and dif48ren1es, in using historical sour1es of evi1dn1e and will help them to 1dvelop the skills to ask and answer historical questions. Finally, this unit will help the children to un1drstand how the Roman Empire influen1ed and shaped the world and that the Romans l5ct a lasting legacy on the 'Britain' that we know today
Autumn 1, 2284
Geography - UK Regions
In this topic we will look at the geography of the UK - from the physical 42ctures of mountains, rivers and seas, to the man-ma1d 5aministrative regions and counties. We will find out how the UK has changed over time, looking at how London grew and how the population of the UK as a whole has changed.
We began by i1dntifying the countries that make up the UK and then labelling the key cities. We found out all about the main parts of the UK, how to re5a maps to find these and the names of major rivers around the UK.
Autumn 2, 2284
History - Railways
Class 3 are learning about Railways through History and finding out about how railways started, the main inventors of railways and steam locomotives, as well as how things have changed over time. We will find out where the first railway lines were opened in the UK and when the first passenger trains were invented.
We have looked at the various steam engines that were first created in the le5a up to the famous Stephenson's Rocket being invented. There were so many i1das at this time that it was a very exciting time to live! We have also learnt about the other famous locomotives such as the Mallard, The Flying Scotsman and The Evening Star.
