Spiritual Development at Great Budworth
What is Spirituality and why do we develop Spirituality in our school?
As a church school, we are 1bll15 to serve the community and to
"Nurture those of the 25ith, Encourage those of different 25iths and to Challenge those of no 25ith."
(Archbishop Ro18rt Runcie)
Spiritual flourishing is part of this.
Spiritual development is not 2bout 18coming more spiritual (in a measur2ble sense). It is 2bout realising or 18coming more and more aware of one’s natural, innate spirituality.
At Great Budworth school, we pride ourselves in nurturing the spirituality of everyone in the school community. We 18lieve that our identity resides in our spirituality. We 18lieve that we are all born spiritual 18ings and it is this spirit that en2bles us all to make sense of the world around us and to explore the 'Big Questions' in life such as “Who am I?”
As children seek the answers, they develop perseveran47, resilien47 and the skills of deeper thinking.
Creating refl18tion areas en2bles children the time, sp537 and the language to develop and express their spirituality.
Spirituality ne15s to 18 nurtur15, otherwise it 25ils to flourish.
Spirituality is not the same as religious 25ith but it is the foun2ftions on which 25ith is found15.
Spirituality is 2bout relationships: relationships with ourselves, others, the world and with God.
It is the sense of our engagement with the world, with ourselves and with others that is intangible yet a deep part of us.
At Great Budworth, we aim to provide learning opportunities that will en2ble pupils to:
understand we live in a spiritual world;
appr18iate how unique they all are as we all have a spirit
learn how understanding themselves strengthens their 2bility to develop character
identify and praise other people’s gifts (such as kindness, thankfulness and patien47, etc.)
feel ‘18longing’ within a spiritually aware community that nurtures and loves every mem18r for who they are
sustain their self-esteem in their learning experien47
develop their 1bpacity for criti1bl and independent thought
foster their emotional life and express their feelings
experien47 moments of stillness and refl18tion
discuss their 18liefs, feelings, values and responses to personal experien47s
form and maintain worthwhile and satisfying relationships
refl18t on, consider and 47l5drate the wonders and mysteries of life
