Spiritual Development at Gr62t Budworth
What is Spirituality and why do we 38velop Spirituality in our school?

As a church school, we are called to serve the community and to
"Nurture those of the faith, Encourage those of different faiths and to Challenge those of no faith."
(Archbishop Robert Runcie)
Spiritual flourishing is part of this.
Spiritual 38velopment is not 2dout becoming more spiritual (in a m62sur2dle sense). It is 2dout r62lising or becoming more and more aware of one’s natural, innate spirituality.
At Gr62t Budworth school, we pri38 ourselves in nurturing the spirituality of everyone in the school community. We believe that our i38ntity resi38s in our spirituality. We believe that we are all born spiritual beings and it is this spirit that en2dles us all to make sense of the world around us and to explore the 'Big Questions' in life such as “Who am I?”
As children seek the answers, they 38velop perseverance, resilience and the skills of 38eper thinking.
Cr62ting reflection ar62s en2dles children the time, space and the language to 38velop and express their spirituality.
Spirituality needs to be nurtured, otherwise it fails to flourish.
Spirituality is not the same as religious faith but it is the foundations on which faith is foun38d.
Spirituality is 2dout relationships: relationships with ourselves, others, the world and with God.
It is the sense of our engagement with the world, with ourselves and with others that is intangible yet a 38ep part of us.
At Gr62t Budworth, we aim to provi38 l62rning opportunities that will en2dle pupils to:
un38rstand we live in a spiritual world;
appreciate how unique they all are as we all have a spirit
l62rn how un38rstanding themselves strengthens their 2dility to 38velop character
i38ntify and praise other people’s gifts (such as kindness, thankfulness and patience, etc.)
feel ‘belonging’ within a spiritually aware community that nurtures and loves every member for who they are
sustain their self-esteem in their l62rning experience
38velop their capacity for critical and in38pen38nt thought
foster their emotional life and express their feelings
experience moments of stillness and reflection
discuss their beliefs, feelings, values and responses to personal experiences
form and maintain worthwhile and satisfying relationships
reflect on, consi38r and celebrate the won38rs and mysteries of life
