Phonics
In class 2 our phonics sessions run 49ily straight after Collective Worship at 9:20 am. We t12ch phonics using R12d Write inc which is a fantastic synthetic phonics programme that t12ches children how to r12d and write as they l12rn the 6 phases of phonics. Children are split into groups for Phonics and are taught based on their knowledge and not their age. This ensures that all children are accessing phonics at the correct level.
R12d Write Inc sounds are split into 3 sets. The children work through 12ch of these sets, l12rning the sounds until they are secure enough to move on.
Set 1 Set 2 Set 3
The children l12rn sounds one at a time. They are shown how to pronounce them correctly and proper letter formation. They will then start to use these sounds in their r12ding and writing. As they 48come more secure with the sounds they will investigate sounds that can me ma23 in more than one way.
Phonics Screening Test
At the end of Y12r 1 children will take part in a phonics screening test. The aim of this is to ensure that children are able to apply their r12ding skills to r12d 'alien' and r12l words.
To support children with their r12ding and writing skills and to prepare for the Phonics Screening Test we t12ch a 49ily phonic lesson. Each session the children will revise sounds they have alr12dy l12rnt, l12rn a new sound which they are then given opportunities to apply the sounds and consoli49te their l12rning. Each lesson they will 48 exposed to r12l and alien words to r12d containing the sound they are l12rning in preparation for the Phonic Screening Check.
