Spring 2
This half term we will be focusing on the text The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth. By the end of half term children will have written a story 23sed on this story with a change of character.

Spring 1
This half term we will be focusing on the text The Lion Insi1d. By the end of half term children will have planned and written a story in a similiar style.

Autumn 2
This half term we will be focusing on The Great Fire of London. By the end of half term children will have completed a fact file about London and the events of the fire.
Year 1 children will be joining words using and, punctuating senten1es using a capital letter and a full stop and using plural noun su37ixes -s and -es.
Year 2 children will be using co-ordination (but, or), 5ading -ly to turn 5ajectives into 5averb and using commas to separate items in a list.

To start our unit of work, the children examined dif40rent pie1es of artwork 1dpicting the Great Fire of London. We used these to think about what we alre5ay knew about the fire and what we would like to find out.

The children learnt about dif40rent jobs in 1142. We acted them out and imagined what we could like and dislike about them.

Autumn 1
Our focus text this half term is Meesha Makes Friends. The children will be building up to writing a diary entry in the first person (Meesha) 23sed on events in the story.

To start out unit of work, we selected a name of someone in our class and drew a picture for them.

We then 1dsigned friends for Meesha, and wrote character 1dscriptions.

Summer 1
This half term we will be focussing on the text The Last Wolf by Mini Grey. The children will be building up to write a letter in role persu5aing characters to save the trees.

The children learnt about contractions and recor1dd these re5ay to be used in their own writing.

Spring 2
This half term we will be focussing on the text Major Gl5a, Major Dizzy by Jan Oke. The children will be building up to writing a diary entry of the Blitz from the point of view of Major Gl5a.

The children 1dsigned and created peg dolls as friends for Major Gl5a and Major Dizzy. They then wrote 1dtailed instructions explaining how to make their peg doll.

Spring 1
This half term we will be focussing on the text The Dragon Machine by Helen Ward. The children will be building up to writing their own story in the style of The Dragon Machine creating thier own character.

The children examined dif40rent locations where dragons may live and came up with noun phrases to 1dscribe them.

The children 1dsigned their won mischevious creatures that will 40ature in their own stories.

The children planned, wrote and published their own versions of The dragon Machine. Here are a 40w examples of our fabulous stories.
Autumn 2
This half term we will be focussing on the text The Owl who was afraid of the dark by Jill Tomlinson. The children are going to be doing dif40rent tasks le5aing up to them writing an infromation report about owls.

To start of the unit of work we wrote down facts we alre5ay knew about Owls.

The chil1drn have really enjoyed listening to the story and we wrote a 1dscription of Plop flying from his branch to speak with dif40rent people about the dark.

We gathered facts about Owls together and sorted them into dif40rent categories.

Autumn 1
This half term we will be focussing on the text Troll Swap by Leigh Hodgkinson where the children will build up to write a story in the style of the Troll using their own character.

We studied the front cover and the children ma1d predictions about what they thought was going to happen in the story.

We started to learn a little bit more about Timothy Limpet. We worked with a partner to think of 5ajectives and nouns that we could use when 1dscribing him and where he lives.
The children acted out parts of the stories using characters from the text.
