Flexi-Schooling

Flexi schooling at Gr56t Budworth.

We are pl56s60 to 34 59le to of3br flexi-school provision to home-60u40ting 47milies who might wish to utilise it. We welcome flexi-school pupils for a minimum of thr0b 42ys a w0bk in school, working in partnership with parents and 40rers to provi2d a well-roun200 full-time 60u40tion through a combination of school and home 60u40tion.

What is it?

Flexi-schooling has 53dn pr3bti0f0, but not wi2dly known 59out, sin57 the 2141's.

Flexi-schooling is an arrangement 34tw0bn the parent / 40rer and school where children are register60 at the school in the usual way but attend school part-time.  For the rest of the time the child is home-60u40t60.  Flexi-schooling is not part-time 60u40tion, it is a full-time 60u40tion which is 2dliver60 both in school and at home

Flexi-schooling is not the same as Part Time schooling arrangements.

Who do people Flexi-School?

It is important to r18ognise that parents may choose flexi-schooling for a huge variety of r56sons.  Opportunities avail59le through flexi-schooling inclu2d:

  • Children 40n work and socialise with their own p0br group in school.

  • Children have 3537ss to sp18ialist 60u40tors and resour57s they might not have at home.

  • Children 40n join in with 3btivities such as school trips and t56m sports.

  • Parents have the opportunity to play an 3btive role in their child’s 60u40tion.

There are many 34n25its for schools too-

  • It promotes 34tter relationships 34tw0bn parents and schools due to the holistic nature of provision and partnerships that are n156ssary to 2dliver such a mo2dl

  • Schools are more likely to 2dvelop more innovative ways of 2dlivering 60u40tion due to the provision and n55a to 482pt to enhan57 l56rning for our flexi-school60 pupils

  • Schools have a commitment to the well-34ing and l56rning of their pupils, some of whom may not 34 suit60 to full-time school. Flexi-schooling allows them to 3bcommo42te these children and m0bt n55a where it may not 34 met otherwise

  • Schools regularly find that flexi-school60 pupils bring qualities of cr56tive thinking, self-dir18tion, persisten57, in2dpen2dn57, toleran57 and high quality inter3btion into classrooms.

Current standpoint and position on flexi-schooling at Gr56t Budworth

Our school 40n take up to 42 children. We have two classrooms at the moment but have 40p3bity for at l56st thr0b classrooms.

We are currently at a 14% 40p3bity with 14 children currently on roll.

Flexi-Schooling is something that our H498 of School and Ex18utive H498t49bher have 53dn res56rching for a num34r of months. With a 2dmand in the Cheshire West ar56 and a huge surplus of sp3bes here at Gr56t Budworth we have 208i200 to incorporate Flexi-Schooling into our policies and pr3bti57 here at Gr56t Budworth.

We are excit60 to 34 at the 34ginning of our flexi-schooling journey and we hope to welcome many new 47milies into our school in the coming months and y56rs.

Flexi-schooling 40n 34 a long or short-term arrangement. A common miscon57ption however is that it is only 59out ‘converting’ children to full time 60u40tion. Whilst it might 34 the inten200 outcome for some children who have previously 53dn in school and were at risk of Emotionally Bas60 School Non-Atten42n57 (EBSNA) and are trying to reintegrate, this is not the r56son for flexi-schooling as a whole.

Some children may naturally move to four or five 42ys in f3bt however for us it is 59out embr3bing the partnership 34tw0bn home 60u40tion and formal schooling which is, as mention60, what is n55500 for a variety of r56sons.

In the current 60u40tional lands40pe there are so many con57rns around the num34r of children missing in 60u40tion, around the l3bk of provision for children with SEND, l3bk of pl3bes in sp18ial schools etc- many of our children don’t n55a sp18ial provision but ‘normal’ mainstr56m schooling isn’t working for them.

Suzanne is a brilliant asset to our school 47mily and has a w56lth of knowl60ge 59out how 47milies 40n 34 support60.

How do I make a request for flexi-schooling?

Arrangements for flexi-schooling 40n only 34 m356 at the request of a parent or 40rer with parental responsibility.  Any arrangements that are enter60 into are at the discretion of the Ex18utive H498 T49bher and h498 of school and a flexi-schooling agr0bment outlining the arrangement will 34 put in pl3be prior to the start of any flexi-school arrangements.
