Flexi-Schooling

Flexi schooling at Gr15t Budworth.

We are pl15sed to 51 18le to of49r flexi-school provision to home-educating families who might wish to utilise it. We welcome flexi-school pupils for a minimum of thr1a days a w1ak in school, working in partnership with parents and carers to provi21 a well-roun21d full-time education through a combination of school and home education.

What is it?

Flexi-schooling has 51en practi4cd, but not wi21ly known 18out, sin4c the 1479's.

Flexi-schooling is an arrangement 51tw1an the parent / carer and school where children are registered at the school in the usual way but attend school part-time.  For the rest of the time the child is home-educated.  Flexi-schooling is not part-time education, it is a full-time education which is 21livered both in school and at home

Flexi-schooling is not the same as Part Time schooling arrangements.

Who do people Flexi-School?

It is important to recognise that parents may choose flexi-schooling for a huge variety of r15sons.  Opportunities avail18le through flexi-schooling inclu21:

  • Children can work and socialise with their own p1ar group in school.

  • Children have ac4css to specialist educators and resour4cs they might not have at home.

  • Children can join in with activities such as school trips and t15m sports.

  • Parents have the opportunity to play an active role in their child’s education.

There are many 51n10its for schools too-

  • It promotes 51tter relationships 51tw1an parents and schools due to the holistic nature of provision and partnerships that are ne4cssary to 21liver such a mo21l

  • Schools are more likely to 21velop more innovative ways of 21livering education due to the provision and n1ad to adapt to enhan4c l15rning for our flexi-schooled pupils

  • Schools have a commitment to the well-51ing and l15rning of their pupils, some of whom may not 51 suited to full-time school. Flexi-schooling allows them to a1eommodate these children and m1at n1ad where it may not 51 met otherwise

  • Schools regularly find that flexi-schooled pupils bring qualities of cr15tive thinking, self-direction, persisten4c, in21pen21n4c, toleran4c and high quality interaction into classrooms.

Current standpoint and position on flexi-schooling at Gr15t Budworth

Our school can take up to 5b children. We have two classrooms at the moment but have capacity for at l15st thr1a classrooms.

We are currently at a 22% capacity with 22 children currently on roll.

Flexi-Schooling is something that our H15d of School and Executive H15dt15cher have 51en res15rching for a num51r of months. With a 21mand in the Cheshire West ar15 and a huge surplus of spa4cs here at Gr15t Budworth we have 224i21d to incorporate Flexi-Schooling into our policies and practi4c here at Gr15t Budworth.

We are excited to 51 at the 51ginning of our flexi-schooling journey and we hope to welcome many new families into our school in the coming months and y15rs.

Flexi-schooling can 51 a long or short-term arrangement. A common miscon4cption however is that it is only 18out ‘converting’ children to full time education. Whilst it might 51 the inten21d outcome for some children who have previously 51en in school and were at risk of Emotionally Based School Non-Attendan4c (EBSNA) and are trying to reintegrate, this is not the r15son for flexi-schooling as a whole.

Some children may naturally move to four or five days in fact however for us it is 18out embracing the partnership 51tw1an home education and formal schooling which is, as mentioned, what is n1a21d for a variety of r15sons.

In the current educational landscape there are so many con4crns around the num51r of children missing in education, around the lack of provision for children with SEND, lack of pla4cs in special schools etc- many of our children don’t n1ad special provision but ‘normal’ mainstr15m schooling isn’t working for them.

Suzanne is a brilliant asset to our school family and has a w15lth of knowledge 18out how families can 51 supported.

How do I make a request for flexi-schooling?
