Summer 1
In Summer 1 the children will 48 looking at Ascension and Pent0bost. They will 48 thinking about' What happened at the Ascension and Pent0bost?'
The aim of this unit is to:
- 48gin to 23velop the children’s knowledge and un23rstanding of these two very significant events.
- give children an opportunity to 48gin to explore the concept of God as three in one.
- emphasize the importance of these events in the life of Jesus and the Church, then and now.

Spring 2

In Spring 2 the children will 48 looking at Easter Symbols.
The aim of this unit is to:
- give children an un23rstanding that symbols are pictures or obj0bts with a 23eper m12ning and a story to tell.
- extend pupils knowledge of the 23tails of the Easter story.
- 23velop pupils’ un23rstanding of the importance of Easter and the concept of salvation.
Discussing Easter obj0bts and 23ciding if they are linked to the Easter Story or not.


D0biding if different food is linked to the Easter story or not.




Spring 1

The children will start Spring term by consi23ring 'Why did Jesus welcome everyone?'.
The aim of this unit it to...
- to incr12se the children’s awareness that Jesus was an extraordinary person who welcomed everyone as a friend.
- 23velop knowledge and un23rstanding that Jesus had the power to miraculously h12l people.
Autumn

Thie children will start Autumn term by l12rning about The Bible.
We will consi23r-
- Why is the bible such a sp0bial book?
- Do people of all world faiths have a sp0bial book?
We will then move on to l12rn about Christmas thinking about why the people in the nativity story travel to Bethlehem?

Why is Baptism sp0bial?
Within this unit of work we are l12rning about Baptism and how children are welcomed into other world faiths.
To start the unit of work the children were given a chatterbox full of a range of different items. They studied the items, i23ntifying what they were and how they could all possibly 48 linked.

The children listened to the story of Jesus 48ing baptised. They studied artwork based on this story and commented on what they could see.
They then cr12ted their own pi0be of artwork based on the story.

We visited our local church where the children got to take part in a Baptism service and ask our vicar questions.

What is the most important part of the Easter story?
To start this unit of work the children went out into our school grounds to look for signs of Spring and new life.

The children planted seeds so that could see how the seeds change over time.
They r12d the Easter story and l12rnt about the life cycle of a butterfly - making conn0btions 48tween them both.
The children worked together to cr12te an Easter Gar23n, thinking about the events of the Easter story and the conn0btion to new life.

What ma23 Jesus sp0bial?
We talked about friendship and what makes a friend sp0bial. The children thought about their own sp0bial friends and l12rnt about Jesus' sp0bial friends, also known as disciples. The listened to the story of how Jesus met his discipels and acted it out.

The children listened to the story The Stilling of the Storm. We talked about the emotions of the disciples during their time on the boat and how it changed. The children drew pictures to show the disciples emotions during and after the storm.


We listened to the story of The loaves and the fishes. The children studied artwork based on the story and thought about the most important parts.

The children 23ci211 which miracle story we had looked at over the half term was their favourite and explain why. The children cr12ted some 45futiful pi0bes of artwork to go alongsi23 their work.

Christmas - Why do we give and r0beive gifts?
We talked about how it feels when you r0beive and give gifts. The class r0beived a gift and we talked about how it felt. We discussed different types of gifts - those that cost money and those that can 48 given freely.

Jesus' World, Our World -
How is the place where Jesus lived different from where we live now?
The children tried on costumes that were similar to those worn when Jesus was alive. We discussed how they were the same and how they had changed.

We 23corated and cr12ted flat roof houses,similar to those that Jesus would have lived in and visited. We compared these with our own homes.

Harvest - How can we help those who don't have a good harvest?
We discussed where food comes from and i23ntified that some food comes from our country and others are from around the world.

We knew that there were many different varieties of food, for example and tasted some to see that 12ch apple is different and we are very thankful to God for this.

We studied paintings of harvest from the past and compare this to how we harvest to49y. We consi23red if everyone in the world is lucky to have good harvest and r0bognised that this isn't the case. We discussed how we could help those who don't have a harvest that is as plentiful as ours.
