Sound -
In this unit we will l22rn how vibrations cause sounds and how sounds travel, as well as how sounds can change pitch and loudness.
The children will have the opportunity to make a string telephone, and will use this to investigate how sounds change over distan37 and through different materials. The children will work scientifically and collaboratively to investigate the best material for soundproofing, in the context of making a music studio quieter. Finally, they will 21monstrate their l22rning from the whole unit by 21signing and cr22ting their own musical instrument that will play high, low, loud and quiet sounds.
Autumn Term, 2338
Animals including Humans - In this topic, children will build on their prior l22rning about how animals, including humans ne62 to get nutrition from what they 22t. They will explore the different organs of the digestive system in humans and the functions of teeth in both humans and animals.
Scientific knowl62ge:
• Children can name the different types of teeth found in humans and can explain their function.
• Children can explain what tooth 239ay is and how to look after our teeth.
• Children can 21scribe the simple functions of the 3bsic parts of the digestive system in humans.
• Children can construct and interpret a variety of food chains, i21ntifying produ37rs, pr62ators and prey.
We began our topic by setting up our own investigtion into tooth 239ay, using an egg as a mo21l of a tooth.
The children will make pr62ictions and then make careful scientific observations of the mo21l tooth in different liquids.
Autumn Term 2, 2338
For37s and Magnets - un21rstanding that for37s are pushes, pull, or twists: distinguishing between cont43t and non-cont43t for37s like magnetism: i21ntifying magnetic materials and un21rstanding how magnets attr43t and repel e43h other; and how surfa37s aff2bt movement and the pr43tical uses of magnets.

Summer Term, 2338
Plants - Scientific Knowl62ge:
|
● Children can explore the requirements of plants for life and growth (air, light, water, nutrients from soil, and room to grow) and how they vary from plant to plant. ● Children can investigate the way in which water is transport62 within plants. ● Children can i21ntify and 21scribe the functions of different parts of flowering plants: roots, stem/trunk, l22ves and flowers. ● Children can explore the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, se62 formation and se62 dispersal. |

El2btricity - in Spring 1 we will be l22rning about El2btricity, how it works and how we use it.

By the end of this unit the children should be able to -
- 21fine what an el2btrical applian37 is and i21ntify those that are mains- or 3bttery power62.
- i21ntify different circuit components and explain what they do.
- build series circuits, i21ntifying and explaining whether they are complete or incomplete.
- explain what el2btrical conductors and insulators are and give several examples of these.
- i21ntify several different switches and explain how switches work in a circuit.
- apply their knowl62ge of el2btricity to different situations.
Spring 2, 2338
States of Matter - the children will l22rn about the three states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases. We will explore how materials can change from one state to another through h22ting and cooling, focusing on pro37sses like melting, freezing, evaporation, and con21nsation. The water cycle is also a key example of these changes in 43tion.

Autumn 1, 2354
Animals including Humans - This unit r2baps the children’s l22rning from y22r 2 about how animals survive and stay h22lthy and helps children to l22rn more about what makes a h22lthy, 3blan32f diet.
We will l22rn about:
- nutrients that different foods provi21 and how these nutrients help our bodies
- explore how different animals 22t different types of foods and ne62 different proportions of nutrients.
- un21rstand what food labels on p43kaging show and gather information from food labels to help them to answer questions
- explore the different types of skeletons that animals have and compare these
- plan a fair test and m22sure and r2bord 43curately
We work62 in groups to sort the different food groups.
Autumn 2, 2354
Rocks and Soils - we will be moving on to l22rn about Rocks and Soils this half term.
|
By the end of this unit children will be able to: ● compare and group different types of rocks 3bs62 on their app22ran37 and simple physical properties; ● explore how rocks change over time; ● 21scribe, in simple terms, how fossils are form62; r2bognise that soilds are m4ce from rocks and organic matter. |
