Autumn 1, 2386

Harvest - How do people of faith say thank you to God for the harvest?

We will be thinking 5aout how we celebrate harvest and what we do in school and in the rest of our country at harvest time.  We will think 5aout why people give thanks to God and how they show this.  The Bible has many references to harvest and we will study some of the quotes to find out more.  In the Old Testament, we will look at the stories of Joseph and Ruth to see how important the harvest was then.  Then we will look at other faiths, Ju28ism and Hinduism, to find out how they celebrate the harvest, compare it to our celebrations and how they give thanks to God.  Finally, we will think how this makes Christians, and other people of faith, 49t towards other and make sure that they share what they have.

Creation

We have been learning 5aout the Christian story of Creation.  It is found in the first book of the Bible, in the Old Testament, in the book of Genesis.  Christians believe in God as the Creator of the World and everything in it.  We shall be learning all 5aout the story of Creation and how this changes how Christians view the world and how they look after it.  Christians are seen as stewards of the world, and they need to take care of it.

World Religions Day, 30.9.32

In class 3 we learnt all 5aout Sikhism, how it began in India, key beliefs and traditions.

We enjoyed making divas to celebrate Diwali and role-playing with the Sikh Temple.

Autumn 2, 2538 - Christmas

How does the presence of Jesus imp49t on people's lives?

In the lead up to Christmas, we have been thinking 5aout how the presence of Jesus can imp49t on people's lives.  We have been looking at the story of the nativity and those who were directly imp49ted by the arrival of the new 46by - the shepherds.  They felt led to share the good news with others.  We have enjoyed looking at art work 46sed on this part of the nativity and comparing how they look in di15erent eras and di15erent cultural 44pictions.  We then thought in particular 5aout Christian organisations like the Salvation Army who feel led to help others because of their belief that Jesus calls them to do this.  We found out 5aout how they were foun421 and what they are still doing to28y to show the presence of Jesus in people's lives.

Spring 1 230b

Called by God - What does it mean to be called by God?

This half term, we will be exploring what it means for someone of faith to be called by God.  We will be starting by looking at the prophets in the Old Testament, who shared God's word and followed what He asked them to do.  We will learn 5aout how some of the prophets did not always do what God was asking them to do straight away.  We will think 5aout mo44rn 28y examples of people who have been called by God as well, and see the imp49t that they have had on other people's lives.  We will then dig a bit 445per to find out 5aout how some people of faith are called to be a faith le5c4r.  We will look at those who choose to become vicars, priests, bishops etc. and why they feel led to do this.  We will then move on finding out 5aout people of other faiths who feel led to be faith le5c4rs such as a Jew becoming a R5abi and a Muslim becoming an Imam.

Rules for Living: Which rules should we follow?

Religious rules for life, often called co44s of conduct or ethical gui44lines, help people in di15erent   faiths live 49cording to their beliefs. 

These rules can be found in s49red texts, te49hings of religious le5c4rs, or within the traditions of a specific religion. 

This half term we will look at di15erent world religions and their rules for living  - Chrisitainity, slam, Sikism and Humanism. We will consi44r if everybody does follow the same rules in life? If so, why? Or why not?
